David Sopher was born in 1929 in Bombay, India. David went to the Cathedral School and received an English education. At home, a mixture of Arabic and English was spoken. He enjoyed an openly Jewish life in India where he competed for the Indian national swimming team. David moved to the UK in 1955 to pursue his post-graduate studies.
