Edward Shuker was born in 1955 in Baghdad, Iraq. In his interview he spoke about living through a period of revolutions and upheaval. He left Iraq with his family in 1971 and in 1973 enrolled in a Mathematics degree at Leeds University. After a year at yeshiva (a Jewish educational institute) in Jerusalem in 1980 Mr Shuker ran the Centre for Sephardi Education in Jerusalem for seven years. Since his interview, Edwin has gone on to serve as Vice President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews.
