Elisabeth Barkany was born in 1964 Tunis, Tunisia. One of ten siblings, she recalls a happy childhood. In her interview she described celebrating the Jewish festivals in Tunisia with fondness. In 1979 at the age of fifteen Elisabeth was told she was going on holiday and sent to live with her grandparents in Paris. In 1987 she moved to the UK where she is now a French teacher.
