Simone Tamman was born in 1947 in Cairo, Egypt and grew up in Port Tewfik. Her father was Director of Barclays Bank in Egypt. In 1956 her parents were imprisoned without chage for a month and the family were expelled from Egypt in December of that year. They were sent to Venice, and settled in London.
