Doris Hugh was born in 1944 in Cairo, Egypt. Her family lived in a flat on Tahrir Square and she grew up surrounded by many, many cousins. In her interview she shared vivid memories of summer holidays at Ras el Bar. Doris and her family left Egypt in 1956. They spent some time at the Eastwood Refugee camp and then moved to Manchester. After graduating from her Master's Degree Doris got married and moved to London with her husband where she had a long career as a French teacher.
